Every fifth boy and every sixth girl in a Russian school is overweight, said Dmitry Nikityuk, head of the Nutrition and Biotechnology Center, Dmitry Nikityuk.
According to the expert, weight problems were found in 20% of students in secondary schools in Russia.
“It was found that today every fifth boy and every sixth girl in a Russian school are overweight,” FAN reports with reference to RIA Novosti.
At the same time, a serious lack of weight is currently observed in 5% of schoolchildren. Over the past ten years, this figure has decreased three times, he added.
WHO experts have warned more than once about the dangers of childhood obesity. It is known that overweight adolescents are more likely to face serious illnesses in adulthood than other children. These are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus and disorders in the musculoskeletal system.
Earlier, the doctor and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov on the air of the TV channel "Russia 1" said that the obesity epidemic is more dangerous than the coronavirus pandemic. Myasnikov stressed that almost 40% of the world's population suffers from overweight problems that lead to diabetes, heart attacks, strokes and cancer.
