Candidate of medical sciences, traumatologist Artyom Katulin told in an interview with RT, with what injuries Russians most often turn to doctors on New Year's holidays and how to avoid unpleasant incidents.

“The main types of injuries during the New Year holidays are injuries sustained with all kinds of pyrotechnics, as well as falls, bruises or fractures, received either in a state of alcoholic intoxication or in the fresh air during active pastime,” the doctor said.

In the case of using pyrotechnics, you need to fully control all your actions and use only certified pyrotechnic products, Katulin explained.

“They can fly off in different directions, explode in your hands. You can get eye burns, some other injuries. Therefore, you need to protect yourself as much as possible and follow the clear instructions that are written on the packaging,”he added.

The expert warned that, being intoxicated, you can fall from a height, break an arm, a leg or hit your head.

The traumatologist advised not to climb under the cornices, where there may be icing and icicles, not to climb out onto the balcony, window sills, but "to behave neatly and with dignity."

According to Katulin, injuries can also occur during outdoor activities - for example, when you are skiing or skating.

“When going out into nature, you need to have a first-aid kit with you. And you need to know how to use it. There should be hemostatics (drugs that help stop bleeding) and commonplace things for immobilization - that is, so that you can fix a broken limb yourself and calmly get to a medical facility or call an ambulance,”he concluded.

Earlier, Doctor of Medical Sciences Nikolai Kosenkov and therapist Lyudmila Lapa, in an interview with RT, told what medicines should be prepared for celebrating the New Year, and also gave recommendations on nutrition during the New Year's feast.
