The doctor of the district hospital testified in court in the case of the liquidation of the Vissarion sect.
The Krasnoyarsk pediatrician told about the home birth of the followers of the teachings of Vissarion, who founded a religious community in the Siberian forest.
In the court, which took place in Krasnoyarsk, pediatrician M. A. Nosova was questioned via video link. She worked in the Kuraginsky district hospital from 2003 to 2017.
“She explained that there were cases of anemia caused, in her opinion, by a deficiency of animal protein, which the children of the followers did not eat. However, she later explained that they ate eggs and dairy products,”says the Telegram channel dedicated to the Vissarion case.
The pediatrician said that the followers often gave birth at home. Once Nosova came to the call, but by that moment the woman in the bathhouse had given birth to a dead child.
From the testimony of the doctor, it follows that the followers of the sect refused vaccinations for religious reasons or because of mistrust of vaccines. As a result, the child, unvaccinated from polio, died of flaccid paralysis.
The Church of the Last Testament was founded by former policeman Sergei Torop in the 1990s. He proclaimed himself the Messiah, took the name Vissarion and founded a religious community. According to the investigation, its residents, under psychological pressure, gave money to the leader. Violence, polygamy, and strict obedience to the head flourished in the sect. Adepts refused official medical care, vaccinations and delivered at home.
In September 2020, Torop and his assistants Vadim Redkin (a former member of the Laskoviy May group) and Vladimir Vedernikov were detained on the territory of a religious community in the forest of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and sent to a pre-trial detention center in Novosibirsk. They were charged under Part 1 of Art. 239 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Creation of a religious association whose activities involve violence against citizens”).
