This figure was announced at a seminar-meeting on prenatal diagnostics at the Republican Perinatal Center in Makhachkala. According to the press service of the medical institution, within the framework of the event, the possibility of introducing new research methods to improve the diagnosis of congenital fetal pathology was noted. “For many years, congenital malformations of the fetus have occupied the second place in the structure of infant mortality in Dagestan, which means that their early detection is a significant factor that will help to further reduce this indicator. Currently, the Ministry of Health of the republic has created all the conditions for prenatal screening - that is, the detection of fetal malformations at the earliest stages. Modern ultrasound machines, laboratory analyzers and reagents were supplied. It is only necessary to strictly comply with the current regulations of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Dagestan and the Russian Federation and ensure full coverage of women with the necessary diagnostics, which will allow us and our patients to take timely measures for the birth of healthy children,”said Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Dagestan Raisa Shakhsinova. “In 2020, more than 46 thousand living children were born in maternity hospitals of the republic, 839 children were born with various pathologies, including 276 children with severe malformations, of which 51 were not identified in utero and the parents learned about the child's illness after birth - there are reserves here to further reduce early neonatal mortality. In 2020, this figure decreased by 27% compared to 2019, but remains 1.5 times higher than the national average,”said Jamina Gebekova, the chief obstetrician-gynecologist of the regional Ministry of Health.
