The policeman saved the child from frostbite by removing it from the chest of a woman who had an open fracture of her legs and who was in shock after a passenger plane crashed in Kazakhstan. However, the police officer does not consider himself a hero and notes that the child survived as a result of the plane crash only thanks to his mother.

“I don't think I acted heroically. The mother saved the child, not me. Because he was in his mother's arms when the incident took place,”said Zhaksylyk Sultanov, senior lieutenant of the Alm-Ata patrol police regiment.

According to Sultanov, it was not immediately possible to find the mother with the child, since they were lying behind the extension of the house, into which the plane crashed. The child began to cry as the policeman came closer. The child's mother tried to get up, but due to her injuries she could not do it. The police officer told her in the state language not to move and asked permission to take the child in order to hand him over to the ambulance doctors.

“She blinked her eyes, gave a sign that she understood. Then she had tears in her eyes,”said the policeman.

The plane crash that killed 12 people occurred on December 27. A Bek Air Fokker-100 passenger plane en route from Almaty to Nur-Sultan lost altitude and broke through a two-story concrete building shortly after takeoff.

Three preliminary versions of the tragedy are considered: pilot error, weather conditions and technical malfunction. The airline ceased operations until at least January 10th.
