Over the past day in Karelia and St. Petersburg, the incidence of coronavirus has exceeded the national average by more than two times. Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova stated this at a briefing.

Golikova also announced a ban on entertainment events, as well as the introduction of restrictions for elderly Russians in 81 regions of the Russian Federation, writes RIA Novosti.

Earlier it was reported that additional restrictions imposed by the authorities of St. Petersburg due to the situation with the coronavirus led to the fact that tourists began to massively cancel the tours to the Northern capital planned for the New Year holidays.

The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, said that restrictive measures on coronavirus in the city could be tightened if the disease situation worsens, NEWS.ru reported. From December 30 to January 10, the city authorities will ban visitors from visiting museums and theaters. Also, the work of catering will be suspended from December 30 to January 3. Access to water parks, aquariums, exhibitions in shopping centers will be banned from December 4. In addition, the traditional New Year fireworks were canceled in the city and the attendance of public events for citizens under 18 and over 65 was limited.
