The Communists of Russia party has come up with an initiative to extend the New Year holidays until January 24, while maintaining salaries due to the situation with the coronavirus in the country. This was reported by [RIA Novosti] (https://ria.ru/20201111/prazdniki-1584042207.html) with reference to a document sent to the government. “On behalf of the Central Committee of the Communists of Russia party, I ask you to consider the initiative of our party on the possibility of extending the traditional for Russia winter New Year and Christmas holidays for two weeks (which in 2021 should last from 1 to 10 January inclusively), that is, add to them in next year, the days off are from 11 to 24 January,”wrote the chairman of the Central Committee of the party, Maxim Suraikin. At the same time, he proposed to keep the payment of salaries to citizens during the long New Year's weekend, as was done in the spring. The party believes that such a measure will protect the population from infection, slow down its spread, avoid overcrowding in hospitals and buy time for the widespread distribution of Russian vaccines. Also, the "Communists of Russia" are confident that the inevitable inconveniences caused by such measures can be compensated by payments from the budget, which guarantee citizens a dignified existence during forced vacations. In September, the Ministry of Labor of Russia developed a draft government decree "On the transfer of weekends in 2021", which, in particular, proposes to establish holidays from 1 to 10 January 2021. In addition, the weekend of January 2 and 3, falling on Saturday and Sunday, which coincide with public holidays, is proposed to be postponed to November 5 and December 31, 2021, respectively. In addition, it is proposed to move the rest day from Saturday 20 February to Monday 22 February.
