UN, June 24 (Xinhua) - China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Zhang Jun, said on Tuesday that the Chinese side pays special attention to the problem of violations of the rights of children in conflict zones. The most effective way to protect them is to ensure peace. The Chinese side supports the initiative of UN Secretary General António Guterres on a world truce and expects that all conflicting parties will actively support and implement this initiative.
Zhang Jun said at the annual open discussion on children and armed conflict, held in the format of a videoconference, that appropriate attention should be paid and the issue of children's lack of education due to armed conflicts should be resolved. It is necessary to fully support the efforts of the governments of the conflicting countries aimed at eradicating poverty, spreading education and medicine, promoting sustainable development, as well as helping children resist the ideology of terrorism and extremism. In Sudan, South Sudan, the Central African Republic and Burundi, China is helping to build educational institutions and implementing joint education and technology projects, which provide local children and youth with a unique opportunity to receive fundamental education and training.

It is necessary to put the people and their lives above all else, take full account of the difficult situation and special needs of children who are victims of armed conflicts, and make every effort to protect their health and safety.
He said that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Chinese side has provided assistance to more than 150 countries in the fight against this infectious disease, in particular by transferring medical supplies, sharing experience on disease prevention and control, sending teams of specialists, and assisting in commercial procurement. … The Chinese side is ready to continue, within its capabilities, to provide assistance in order to minimize the consequences of the epidemic for children who are victims of armed conflicts, the diplomat confirmed. --0--
