VLADIVOSTOK, April 2 - RIA Novosti. The direct route of infection with coronavirus - from mother to child - has not yet been proven, Anna Simakova, chief freelance specialist in infectious diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Primorsky Territory, told RIA Novosti, commenting on the information that an infected Russian woman gave birth.
Earlier on Thursday, the headquarters of the Altai Territory reported that the coronavirus was detected in a woman in Barnaul, who gave birth to a child a few days ago.
"According to the experience of China, and this was written in the Russian clinical guidelines, to date, the vertical route of infection - so that the infection is transmitted from mother to child - has not been proven," Simakova said.
According to her, in China there was a small number of pregnant women with coronavirus - 147, 80% of them had a mild form of the disease, the rest were divided between moderate and severe.
Simakova noted that antibodies that are in the mother's body are always transmitted to a child at birth, they circulate in him for up to a year. In a patient with a coronavirus, antibodies are formed in the body, but you need to look at what period of pregnancy the woman got sick. "We need to consider the situation in detail. But to say that a child will have immunity from coronavirus infection is wrong," the specialist added.
On March 11, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19 a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 820 thousand cases of infection have already been recorded in the world, more than 40 thousand people have died.
