The malfunction of the emergency gangway of a passenger plane caused unpleasant adventures for a group of Russian schoolchildren who were returning to Moscow from the Italian island of Sicily after participating in an international theater festival. Half of the young Russians were removed from the flight by S7 Airlines altogether,
since in case of problems with one of the emergency ramps, the number of passengers who can be taken on board is sharply reduced.
The other half, after a 10-hour delay, still took off on this flight, but before takeoff, the schoolchildren watched as the crew members repaired the emergency ladder with scotch tape. The children tried to film the process, but they were strictly ordered to remove their smartphones, otherwise, they say, the police would be called. This was reported on April 15 by Moscow 24. Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely in the Russian capital.
Those who stayed at the airport in Catania had to get to Russia with a transfer - through Turkish Istanbul (the escorts decided that it was better than waiting three days in Sicily for the next direct flight to Russia). A hotel in Turkey, where 8 schoolchildren and an accompanying person could sleep a little between flights, was paid for by S7 Airlines.
Now the parents of the children are going to sue the air carrier, accusing him of a devil-may-care attitude, reports Vechernyaya Moskva on April 16. They do not understand why the group was divided into two parts, while other, adult passengers, and not children, were taken on the direct flight. Why did the children first sit at the Catania airport for 10 hours, and then at night they were looking for a hotel in Istanbul, where they were not even given breakfast - for the first time the schoolchildren ate only on the plane to Moscow.
