A project aimed at the rehabilitation of children with limited ophthalmological spectrum has started in Omsk. Volunteers conduct classes with children using the animal therapy method. The Feel Us project is being implemented thanks to the Native Towns social investment program of Gazprom Neft.
The grant project is a multifunctional rehabilitation model. Offsite classes are held in an adaptive boarding school 14 for blind and visually impaired children with the participation of the Omsk Ecocenter. Children have the opportunity to get to know the diversity of the world around them in a playful way. Last week, four inhabitants of the Ecocenter were brought to school: a boa constrictor, an iguana, a hedgehog and a rabbit. The children were told about the peculiarities and lifestyle of animals, and also given the opportunity to touch them. New tactile sensations for blind children bring tangible benefits, experts say.
“Our project is aimed at supporting families with children with disabilities using animal therapy. These are proven effective practices of understanding the world through communication with animals in order to reboot and increase the level of activity of psychomotor brain functions in children. Thanks to the Omsk Oil Refinery and the Home Towns program, we managed to bring our idea to life,”said the author of the project, Lilia Samatova.
Play activities are also organized for children to give vivid emotions and impressions. Volunteers do not come empty-handed - thanks to the support of the Omsk Refinery, books with large print, stencils and books in Braille, as well as sports equipment for outdoor activities were purchased.
