MOSCOW, February 17. / TASS /. More than 25% of children in the Russian Federation aged 6 to 12 do not want to go in for sports, 20.4% would like to go in for swimming, 14.5% - in football. Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin announced this at a meeting of the Federation Council on Wednesday.

"According to sociological studies for 2019 and 2020, commissioned by the Ministry, 90% of children from three to five years (as noted by their parents) have a high motivation for physical activity in the form of entertainment. But, unfortunately, at the age of 6 up to 12 years old 25.5% of children would not like to engage in any kind of sport, and 20.4% would like to try to sign up for swimming, 14.5% - for football, - said Matytsin. - Children 13-17 years old retain interest to physical culture and sports, and 50.4% of adolescents indicated that these activities are necessary to maintain and strengthen health."

The minister spoke about the tasks of the department in this direction. "We see here our task of promoting and popularizing physical culture and sports, including using animation, cinema, television and Internet resources, and the formation of a sustainable interest in sports among children," he stressed.
