19-year-old Merlin Blackmore from Canada grew up in a polygamous family and spoke about his unusual upbringing on TikTok. His father, 64-year-old Winston Blackmore, has created a gigantic religious community in Bountiful, British Columbia. He lived with 27 wives and 150 children. Interestingly, the Blackmore family is not the only polygamous social unit in this state. About 50 years ago, Mormons who fled from Utah did establish a whole polygamous settlement here, although polygamy is not officially recognized in Canada. In a post on TikTok (@ merlins.life), Merlin Blackmore said that for a long time he hid from acquaintances how was his childhood, and only recently found the strength to share his story. Now Merlin lives in the USA and finally feels free: “I've wanted to talk about this for many years. Now I am in the position that I can do it, let the whole world know.”The children went to their own community school, and the teenagers did not live with their mothers, but with each other in houses that looked like motels. Each child referred to his biological mother as “mom,” and the father’s 26 other wives, “mother,” adding her name. It must be said that only 22 out of 27 wives gave birth to children from Winston Blackmore, and only 16 of these women remain with the polygamist to this day. In a video on his page (@ warrens.life), Merlin's older brother, Warren Blackmore added: "Usually there were two mothers in each house with their children, one on the top floor and the other on the bottom." Merlin jokingly calls himself a "triplet" - he was born on the same day with two other siblings, but they all have different mothers. And another of their brothers, Murray, had 12 brothers and sisters who were born with him in the same year, and all of them were given names with the letter "M". The family celebrated the birthdays of every child, but Thanksgiving was the biggest celebration, when the whole family gathered in a huge hall. Another Blackmore brothers, Warren, also shared his family story on social networks. Here's what he said: “Me and Merlin are real brothers and really best friends. Together with Murray, we grew up in the same house and did everything together, our mothers are sisters. " He also stressed that the children in the family have always had good relations: "Instead of hating each other, as many brothers and sisters do, we supported and support each other in every possible way." By the way, the family lived largely on subsistence farming - the children were entrusted with farming duties. Merlin admitted that he supported his father for a long time, but eventually completely cut contact with him. In 2017, Winston Blackmore was accused of polygamy and sentenced by six months of house arrest. All three - Merlin, Murray and Warren - have left the community, although they remain on good terms with their siblings.
