LONDON, 2 Feb - RIA Novosti, Maria Tabak. Sir Thomas Moore, a 100-year-old British veteran, who raised more than £ 32 million during the first quarantine in the UK to help the National Health Service (NHS), has died of COVID-19, his family said.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear father, Captain Sir Tom Moore,” the family said in a statement.

Earlier, Moore's daughter Hannah announced that her father was hospitalized with COVID-19.

A photo of the veteran with dates "1920-2021" has appeared on Moore's official Twitter page.

When he was still 99 years old, Moore set himself the task of going around his 25-meter yard 100 times before he turned 100, and successfully completed this mission. Initially, the WWII veteran planned to raise one thousand pounds to help doctors, but his initiative was supported by ordinary citizens and celebrities, thanks to which millions of pounds were raised. Later, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, who herself is not much younger than Moore, knighted the veteran.
