The head of the Center for Psychological Assistance, popular blogger Alexander Shakhov told Zvezda about the peculiarities of Instagram's influence on the human attention system.
“Instagram has most clearly formed clip thinking among users - this is a definite influence on the system of attention and concentration. We brush off posts, and for the brain it means a quick switch from topic to topic, therefore, I do not ponder, I don’t read, but I train my brain to constantly switch attention. From this point of view, psychologists and sociologists began to say more that the diagnosis, which was previously given only to children, - attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - began to be diagnosed for adults,”the psychologist said.
According to Shakhov, social media is a good workout for attention deficit disorder. Attention is the ability to keep your consciousness on a specific object for a certain time.
However, if we spend five to six hours on the Internet every day, then we are actually training the ability to “not hold on to consciousness”.
“People are getting used to superficial posts more and more, where everything is very simplified. They are not ready to think seriously, to receive any fundamental knowledge. Now the trend on Instagram is Stories, which has made the consumption of information even faster,”the psychologist emphasized.
