NIZHNY NOVGOROD, 23 Dec - RIA Novosti. Children from the Smolyakov family, where a priestly father was arrested on charges of violence against his daughter, and a mother on suspicion of torture, were placed in a rehabilitation center in Saransk, the Ministry of Education of Mordovia told RIA Novosti.

According to the investigation, a 54-year-old resident of the Chamzinsky district, raising 12 children, including 6 adopted, in 2005 and 2012, committed crimes that infringe on the sexual integrity of his adopted daughter, who was then 6 and 13 years old, respectively. By a court decision on December 19, the man was taken into custody. In addition, a criminal case of torture (Article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and failure to fulfill the duties of raising minors (Article 156 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) is being investigated against the accused and his wife. The woman was arrested on December 22.

Earlier, a law enforcement source told RIA Novosti that the arrested for violence and torture of children is a Mordovian priest Sergiy Smolyakov.

"Four children of the Smolyakovs, 13, 15, 16 and 17 years old, are now in a rehabilitation center in Saransk. Another 10-year-old girl who lived in the family is being taken care of by her sister. The sister was also brought up in this family," the head of the department told the agency additional education and guardianship of the Ministry of Education of Mordovia Galina Grebneva.

She noted that two of the minors who are now in the rehabilitation center complained about their parents. "The children are now undergoing medical examinations, a psychologist is working with them," added Grebneva.

According to her, it is too early to say how long the children will be in the rehabilitation center. "We will work with relatives on the issue of transferring children to their care," said an employee of the Ministry of Education of Mordovia.

Earlier it was reported that the investigating authorities of the RF IC for the region had opened a criminal case on negligence against officials of the guardianship and trusteeship bodies of the Chamzinsky municipal district (Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

As RIA Novosti was told in the Ministry of Education of Mordovia, there, together with other bodies of the republic's prevention system, are studying the situation with the Smolyakov family and "are carrying out comprehensive work in relation to the actions of the guardianship and guardianship bodies of the Chamzinsky municipal district."

"After examining the materials, we do not see that this is some kind of dysfunctional family, the family was always in sight. It is difficult to say now, the assessment will be given after an investigation into the specialists of the guardianship authorities," said the head of the guardianship department of the Ministry of Education of Mordovia.

According to local media reports, the relatives and adopted children of the rector of the Nikolskaya church in the village of Sorlinay, priest Sergiy Smolyakov, turned to the police with a statement about their father's abuse of them. In the Ardatovsk diocese, RIA Novosti said that Smolyakov, who served as the rector of the Nikolskaya church in the village of Sorliney, "is out of state" for half a year for health reasons.
