VLADIVOSTOK, February 26. / TASS /. Parents who have children with Down syndrome will receive methodological assistance in their upbringing and rehabilitation. To do this, with the help of a presidential grant - more than a million rubles - the Vladmama charity foundation in Primorye will publish a book with real stories from 15 families who are already raising children with this syndrome. The publication, along with booklets and videos, will be distributed in maternity hospitals in the region, Olga Siyanko, President of the Vladmama Foundation, told TASS.
According to the fund, there are about 250 families in Primorye where a person with Down syndrome (including an adult) lives. The number of children living in the state childhood system is at least 60.
“Unlike the central part of Russia, where there are adopted protocols that explain how to inform parents about the birth of a child with Down syndrome, this is not the case in Primorye. The words of doctors can influence the decision of parents to raise a special child in the family. with doctors, staff of maternity hospitals, antenatal clinics, conducting lectures and providing objective information about who people with Down syndrome are, what communities are, what kind of assistance system already exists for them in the region. to publish a book with the stories of families in which children with Down syndrome live and distribute it in 29 maternity hospitals in the Primorsky Territory, "Olga Siyanko said.
According to Siyanko, the foundation is now negotiating with families who will become the heroes of the book. After the book is printed, the staff of the maternity hospitals will be interviewed. "This project has the main goal - to prevent children with Down syndrome from falling into the system of social orphanhood. The goal of the project is to ensure that parents do not abandon their children, so that they can live and grow up in a family, and those children who have already "the system" had the opportunity to find a foster family, "explained Siyanko.
The President of the Vladmama Foundation noted that specialists in training, rehabilitation and assistance to people with Down syndrome work in Primorye. And children can live and study, albeit under the constant supervision of loved ones.
The system of state grant support to NGOs has existed in Russia since 2006. 2017 non-profit organizations from all regions of the country became the winners of the first presidential grant competition in 2020. They will receive a total of 4.1 billion rubles. In the first place - both in the number of projects and in the amount of grants - the direction "Preservation of Historical Memory" came out, which is associated with the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Acceptance of applications for the second competition will begin on February 26. The first deputy head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, Sergei Kiriyenko, reported that the total amount of support for NGOs for three years amounted to more than 44 billion rubles.
