EKATERINBURG, July 8. / TASS /. The birth rate in the Sverdlovsk region has been declining over the past five years. So, in the first half of 2020, about 21 thousand birth certificates of children were registered in the region, while in the same period last year - about 23 thousand, Deputy Head of the Regional Registry Office Natalya Khramova said on Wednesday at the Ural Regional Information Center of TASS.
“Unfortunately, since 2015 and until now we have been observing a downward trend in the birth rate in the Sverdlovsk region. So, according to statistics for half a year, today we see this picture again: in the first half of 2020, we have registered 21,306 birth certificates, whereas last year, for the same period, the number of such acts amounted to 23,168, that is, we are witnessing a decline. In 2019, it was probably the lowest rate in the last 11 years - a decline in the birth rate by 8% compared to 2018. The peak of the birth rate in The Sverdlovsk region was noted in 2014 - 63,478 newborns, "she said.
Khramova connects the decline in the birth rate in recent years with the fact that today's potential parents were born in the 1990s, when there was a noticeable demographic decline throughout Russia. She also noted that a surge in the birth rate and an increase in the number of registered marriage acts is expected in the coming years.
"The decline in fertility occurs because potential parents today are citizens aged 25 and over, that is, those born in the nineties, when there was a colossal decline in the birth rate in the country - up to 44 thousand acts [in the Sverdlovsk region]. This is a noticeable decline compared to the 1980s, when about 78 thousand acts were registered, and the 1960s-1970s, when in our region there were up to 94 thousand births per year. We expect a surge in the birth rate and an increase in the number of marriage acts in our region. region, when the children of the 2000s grow up, who will become potential parents and the main contingent who marries, "Khramova said.
At the same time, she noted the positive dynamics of the birth rate of second and subsequent children in Sverdlovsk families. "I would like to
to note the fact that today there is a clear dynamics of the birth of second, third and subsequent children in families.
This, of course, is facilitated by measures of state support for families at the birth of second and subsequent children.
both at the level of the federation and at the level of our region, "Khramova said.
