MOSCOW, January 27. / TASS /. A new wave of antibiotic resistance may appear in the world due to their increased use during a pandemic. This was announced on Wednesday by the director of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor Vasily Akimkin.
“Most likely, we will meet with a new wave of antibiotic resistance, since all countries, including the Russian Federation, indicate an increase in the use of antibiotics,” he said, speaking at the seminar “COVID-19: A New Challenge to Humanity”.
Earlier, Inna Kulikova, Director of the Department of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for Organization of Emergency Medical Aid and Health Risk Management, said that the ministry was concerned that Russians are increasingly using antibiotics for coronavirus, which are useless for its treatment. According to the head of the Department of Pulmonology at Sechenov University, chief freelance pulmonologist of the Russian Ministry of Health Sergei Avdeev, antibiotic therapy is ineffective in the treatment of a new coronavirus infection, however, the cases of antibiotic prescriptions by doctors in the treatment of COVID-19 today exceed the norm by tens of times.
