In Nizhny Novgorod, 10 people suffered from chlorine poisoning in the pool of the Gold's Fitness center, which is considered an elite in the city. This is reported by NewsNN with reference to the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Among the victims are six children and adolescents. A criminal case was initiated.
The incident occurred on February 6 at about 16:00. The ambulance doctors who arrived helped three adults and three children, four visitors to the pool were hospitalized: two 8-year-old children, a 15-year-old teenager and one adult.
The deputy head of the region, Andrei Gneushev, visited the Nizhny Novgorod Children's Clinical Hospital, where the injured minors were taken. According to him, doctors assess the condition of one child as serious, and two other children and an adult are in a state of moderate severity.
Later, another child was taken to the same hospital, whose condition worsened at home, the regional government said.
Visitors to the pool became sharply ill during a group lesson, according to "Nizhegorodskaya Pravda". According to eyewitnesses, the pool was closed after the emergency, but the activities of the fitness club were not suspended, the newspaper writes.
The Regional Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the fact of the incident under Part 1 of Art. 238 ("Provision of services that do not meet the health safety requirements of consumers") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, according to the agency's website.
Investigators and forensic experts are working on the scene, seizing pool water samples and documentation, interrogating pool workers and visitors, the report said.
