SAINT PETERSBURG, August 28. / TASS /. The Kuibyshevsky District Court of St. Petersburg refused to satisfy the mother's claim with a request to oblige the city health committee to provide her with Zolgensm to treat her one-year-old child, the joint press service of the St. Petersburg courts said on Friday.

The cost of one injection exceeds $ 1 million. The drug Zolgensm is used to treat children with spinal muscular atrophy under the age of two, is not registered in Russia, and is administered once. Earlier, according to the results of consultations of doctors in St. Petersburg, the child was recommended to use this particular drug.
"The drug Zolgensm was relevant in February and April, but not now, the court established. The court, taking into account the circumstances of the case and the position of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, refused to satisfy the requirements," the message says.
As explained in the press service, on Thursday, another consultation of doctors from several city hospitals was held (St. Olga's Children's City Hospital in St. Petersburg, VA Almazov National Medical Research Center, Children's City Hospital 1), who did not recommend the administration of the drug. According to the attending physician, the child now has a positive trend on other medications, and if the drugs are changed (undesirable in the presence of positive dynamics), then a period of at least 4 weeks must elapse between their introduction.
In addition, the court was not provided with information about the possibility of administering the drug depending on the weight of the child (up to 21 kg), and not depending on the age.
