Coronavirus with pneumonia is extremely rare in children, but parents should nevertheless pay attention to the condition of the child - if he has shortness of breath and a high fever, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Pediatrician Ekaterina Khovaiko told the Russians about this, the TV channel "Saint Petersburg" reports.
Khovayko also named signs of possible coronavirus pneumonia in children: if the condition of a child with an acute respiratory illness worsens after a few days, pallor, lethargy, apathy and heavy breathing appear, you should consult a doctor. You can independently observe a child for no more than three to five days, and after that it is necessary to receive qualified medical care based on his condition.
If a child has a suspicion of pneumonia, it is necessary to call a doctor at home - you should not choose your own cough medicines. Prescribing drugs without a specialist is dangerous for the lungs, as the drugs suppress coughing, but the infection continues to develop, Khovayko said. Also, do not bring down the temperature, because the body's defense mechanisms work only at elevated temperatures. Antipyretic children under one year old should be given at temperatures above 38 degrees, and for those who are older - at 38.5-39.
Earlier, the doctor of the regional children's hospital of Perm, Elena Zubova, said that children under three years old are the hardest to carry the coronavirus. According to her, parents first of all need to pay attention to a stuffy nose, otitis media, pain and sore throat in a child. In addition, dry or wet coughs, shortness of breath, weakness, seizures, diarrhea, and nausea may indicate infection.
