The Russian Orthodox Church has proposed to abandon administrative and criminal liability against parents who "moderately punish" their children. " This was reported by "Interfax" with reference to the secretary of the chairman of the Patriarchal Commission for the Family, Protection of Motherhood and Childhood Yekaterina Chistyakova.

“Often, interference in the family is associated with the use by conscientious parents of punishments that are not dangerous for children - they are faced with administrative and criminal liability. It is necessary to centrally change the practice so that parents are prosecuted for drunkenness or beatings, but not prosecuted for moderate punishment,”Chistyakova said.

According to the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church, inspections on the occasion of harmless punishments are unacceptable, since they "ignore the presumption of the parents' good faith." Chistyakova suggested that this is contrary to the Constitution and the basic provisions of family law.

On February 2, Federation Council member Elena Mizulina, former chairman of the Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children, spoke out against punishing parents for spanking and slapping. At the same time, the senator did not call to relinquish administrative responsibility in such cases.

On January 27, the State Duma adopted a law decriminalizing domestic violence, and on February 1 it was approved by the Federation Council. Beatings inflicted on loved ones will be considered under an administrative, not a criminal, article. In case of relapses within a year, the offender faces criminal liability.
