This year, Russian schools have a record number of students - 16.5 million. And almost two million kids will sit down at their desks for the first time. Today, many classes came to the solemn assembly with only one bouquet from all students. This is a charitable action "Children instead of flowers", which has been taking place in Russia for several years, according to Olga Zhemchugova, a correspondent for MIR 24.

Today, not 20 or 30 bouquets per line are brought to the beloved teacher, but only one. The whole class is raising funds for it. The rest of the money is transferred to a fund to help seriously ill children. The action was called “Children instead of flowers”.

“This action has been taking place in our school for several years. This is done in order to help children. Those who want can participate,”says Diana Abdulmanova, a student at school 498.

The action "Children instead of flowers" was invented by the teacher five years ago. Since then, hundreds of schools across Russia have joined it. This year, foreign educational institutions are also participating, for example, in the United States and Israel. Charitable organizations told how many babies they have already managed to help with just flowers.

“It is very important for us that children know and understand what charity is. And that this is not one day, a holiday, but an everyday story. You can always help those in need,”says Sofia Kharkova, a representative of the House with a Lighthouse Foundation.

This year, charitable organizations expect to help 900 children. Today, first-graders will also be told about them at their first lesson in their lives.
