CHITA, July 20. / TASS /. Children from the flood-affected areas of the Trans-Baikal Territory will rest in a camp on Lake Baikal, the press service of the regional Ministry of Education said on Friday.

In Transbaikalia, it rains almost daily for more than a month; since July 8, 29 settlements, including the cities of Chita, Shilka and Nerchinsk, have entered the flooding zone. The flooded rivers flooded over 700 residential buildings, about 1.5 thousand household plots and 2.8 thousand summer cottages. More than 5 thousand people were in the flood zone, including 1.1 thousand children.

"The ministry has agreed with the leadership of the Republic of Buryatia on the possibility of rest and health improvement for 150 children from flood-affected areas at the base of the Enkhaluk camp on Lake Baikal," the press service said.

The ministry recalled that due to floods in the region, seven health camps were closed ahead of schedule, 535 children were evacuated from them - they were sent home, and their parents were refunded the money they paid for their vacation.

"The Ministry of Education plans to hold specialized shifts for these children and organize recreation in country health camps in August. In addition, letters were sent to the Ministry of Education of Russia with a request to accept children in the All-Russian Children's Center" Ocean "in Primorye," the press service added.

On July 16, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced that the total damage from the flood in the Trans-Baikal Territory, according to preliminary estimates, has already exceeded 1 billion rubles. On Wednesday, he instructed the Ministry of Finance of Russia, EMERCOM of Russia and the Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory Natalya Zhdanova to ensure the prompt allocation and delivery of funds for the transfer of payments to victims of the emergency. An emergency regime is in effect throughout the region.
