MOSCOW, November 5 - RIA Novosti. Member of the Committee on International Affairs Elena Panina, commenting on the resignation of the president of the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, noted that after the rapprochement of the Russian Federation and Serbia, he became a "toxic asset" of his masters - the Americans, who rushed to get rid of him.

Thaci had previously resigned after the Special Court in The Hague upheld an indictment against him for the 1998-1999 war crimes.

"What happened to Hashim Tachi is a lesson for all American" proxies ", for the time being, naively confident in their own invulnerability," Panina told RIA Novosti.

She stressed that Thaci was well known about the monstrous crimes twenty years ago, but he was not touched all this time, because after the actual seizure of Kosovo from Serbia, his fighters were needed "to intimidate the Serbs who remained in the province, to put pressure on Belgrade."

"However, in a situation where Serbia began rapprochement with Russia, and Washington is trying with all its might to prevent this, Hashim Thaci has turned into a" toxic asset "that the owners are in a hurry to get rid of," Panina said.

According to the politician, such a thing would have been difficult to imagine at a time when Serbia was ruled by pro-Western politicians like President Boris Tadic.

"Only the willingness of the Serbian authorities to develop ties with Russia and pursue a multi-vector policy made Washington show at least minimal respect for the Serbs and stop protecting one of the most odious and cruel participants in the bloody Balkan meat grinder of the 1990s," Panina stated.
