Doctors of the Republican Perinatal Center "Mama Patimat" in Dagestan left a baby weighing 450 grams at birth. The girl has already been discharged, she feels well.
The girl was born on January 2 this year. The child was immediately placed in an incubator - a special device for nursing newborns - and connected to a ventilator, since she could not breathe on her own. All this time, she was fed breast milk using a gastric tube, according to the website of the Ministry of Health of the Republic.
As a result, in 2.5 months, the girl's weight increased to 2202 grams. Now the baby is at home.
“Cases of nursing newborn babies weighing less than 500 grams are rare in the practice of Russian medicine. This is the first time we have such a case in our center. Today the baby feels well and is ready for an independent life,”said Eldar Shaikhov, head of the neonatal resuscitation and intensive care unit.
According to WHO standards, children born after the 22nd week with a body weight of at least 500 grams are considered potentially viable.
To date, eight more babies born prematurely are in the neonatal intensive care unit.
The Mama Patimat perinatal center opened in Makhachkala on June 1, 2017. The center is designed for 150 beds and can receive more than 8 thousand patients annually. Since the opening of the clinic, almost three thousand children have been born.
