MOSCOW / EKATERINBURG, 6 October - RIA Novosti. Investigators and the prosecutor's office in Yekaterinburg are checking on the fact of a massive illness of children, presumably meningitis.

"On the afternoon of October 6, 2017, the law enforcement agencies received information about a massive illness of children (presumably meningitis) in one of the districts of the city of Yekaterinburg. On this fact, the investigation department for the Verkh-Isetsky district of the city of Yekaterinburg of the RF IC in the Sverdlovsk region organized a pre-investigation check," - SUSK said in a message.
It is noted that signs of meningitis have been identified in several dozen people - in most cases, these are children from different families. Some of the patients are currently hospitalized. Investigators, together with employees of the Rospotrebnadzor authorities, are finding out the exact number of cases.
The Prosecutor's Office of the Sverdlovsk Region also began the check, according to which 40 residents of the Verkh-Isetsky District of Yekaterinburg, including both children and adults, were hospitalized with signs of an infectious disease.
"At the moment, 18 outbreaks have been registered where the sick have been identified. In particular, residents of Shakespeare, Krasnokamskaya streets, Skorostochny lane and a number of others have been hospitalized. The prosecutor's office, during an inspection carried out with the involvement of Rospotrebnadzor specialists, will establish the circumstances in which children and adults fell ill. among other things, the quality of drinking water used in the household of the affected families is subject to verification, "the supervisory authority clarifies.
According to the prosecutor's office, water samples have already been taken from underground wells in the private residential sector of the indicated microdistrict.
