It is known that the deceased woman suffered from postpartum depression, which worsened with the birth of her second child. In a suicide note, she asked not to put her husband in jail. The man was at work at the time of the tragedy, he was shocked by what had happened.
Postpartum depression is a common disease, but it is difficult to recognize it, says psychiatrist Elena Varno.
“This is a fairly common and poorly recognized disorder. A woman suffering from postpartum depression feels insecure and incompetent. This is especially evident in the case of the first child, when the life of a woman in labor changes very dramatically. The trouble is that depression is difficult to detect and various symptoms mask it. As a rule, women turn to specialists very late,”she told Info24.
According to the expert, a predisposition to this disease can manifest itself long before the wife's first child. “For example, if a girl had depressive symptoms during puberty or severe symptoms during PMS, we can talk about the likelihood of postpartum depression in the future,” Varno said.
The main danger of this disease is the manifestation of suicidal tendencies in patients. “The problem is that breastfeeding prevents you from resorting to the drugs that are required in such cases. Therefore, to solve this problem, tectonic shifts are necessary, such as switching to feeding with artificial mixtures,”she added.
