More than 15 municipal summer health camps in Yekaterinburg and two camps, where shifts are organized by the Sverdlovsk branch of the Russian movement of schoolchildren, will be covered by HIV prevention and an alternative to risky behavior program.
It is worth noting that during the events, specialists from various departments visit adolescents and young people (commission on juvenile affairs, narcological service, city center for medical prevention). On prevention days, specialists together carry out comprehensive activities aimed at developing safe health skills.
“Prevention of HIV infection among adolescents and young people is an important task of health care in the Sverdlovsk region. For 10 years, specialists of the Sverdlovsk Regional AIDS Center and its branches have been conducting seminars for school teachers, secondary specialized educational institutions, as well as for specialists from cultural institutions, youth policy, special protection, and so on,”said Health Minister Andrei Tsvetkov.
Preventive work with the participation of several services and departments is yielding results. Since 2015, there has been a maximum decrease in morbidity among adolescents and young people under the age of 29.
It is important that prevention is constant, therefore, not for the first year in a row, the Yekaterinburg Administration's Youth Affairs Committee and the Sverdlovsk Regional AIDS Center have been implementing a joint program and work with organized adolescents and youth who spend the summer months in sports and health camps.
“It's great that not only health professionals, but also summer camp teachers understand the importance of preventive work in the summer. This means that all together we are fulfilling a common task of organizing primary prevention of HIV infection,”says Olga Prokhorova, head of the AIDS Center's prevention department.
