Ulyanovsk doctors will begin to perform a new type of high-tech surgery for premature newborns. As reported to IA REGNUM in the regional government, the children's clinical hospital named after Yu. F. Goryacheva won a grant for the supply of equipment for laser coagulation of the retina in retinopathy to the region.
The operations carried out on the new equipment help prevent premature blindness in children born prematurely. Previously, these patients were referred to other regions.
According to the head of the regional Ministry of Health Pavel Degtyar, the number of high-tech operations in the Ulyanovsk region increases annually. Also, the range of types of medical care that Ulyanovsk residents receive without leaving the region is expanding.
“Since the beginning of the year, we have provided such services to more than 600 children at the expense of state funds. Of these, 200 children received it in the Ulyanovsk healthcare institutions. High-tech medical care for Ulyanovsk children is carried out on the basis of the UODKB in neonatology, traumatology-orthopedics and pediatric surgery for newborns. Since 2016, high-tech neonatology operations have also begun to be performed in City Hospital 1,”Degtyar said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his message to the Federal Assembly, designated the increase in the provision of high-tech medical care as one of the priority areas in the healthcare sector.
In the Ulyanovsk region, such services for newborns will also be provided in the new perinatal center, which is currently being built on the basis of the UODKB.
“Premature babies are currently undergoing rehabilitation treatment on the basis of our new rehabilitation department, which was opened with the support of Governor Sergei Morozov. After the opening of the perinatal center, which is currently being built on the basis of the regional children's clinical hospital, all premature births will be taken there. For nursing premature babies in the new facility, we will use the most modern neonatal technologies,”says the chief physician of the Yu. F. Goryacheva, confidant of the President of the Russian Federation Anna Lebedko.
As reported, on the initiative of Morozov, the Ulyanovsk region was included in the list of 30 regions of Russia where high-tech perinatal centers are being built.
“Over the past three years, the infant mortality rate has decreased by 24.4%. About 800 premature babies are born a year, of which about 80 - with a body weight of up to a kilogram, about 200 - with a body weight of one to one and a half kilograms. We carefully monitor such babies after birth, provide the necessary medical assistance. Thus, the survival rate of premature babies over the past three years has improved by almost 45%, the prevalence of severe cases of intracranial hemorrhage, which led to profound disability, has decreased by 70%. Premature babies have various deviations, including one of the most common is ophthalmologic - retinopathy, for the surgical treatment of which we will be supplied with equipment,”explained Timur Gainetdinov, chief freelance neonatologist of the Ulyanovsk region.
Today, the UODKB already has a "retinopathy room for premature babies", where consultations and dynamic observation, as well as conservative treatment of subthreshold stages of retinopathy, are carried out. Examination of the retina of newborns is carried out using electric ophthalmoscopes, a forehead electric direct ophthalmoscope, a pediatric retinal camera for premature babies. If the retina does not mature and retinopathy develops, then the child is examined every week and receives a dynamic examination by an ophthalmologist. In the case of the development of the threshold stage of the disease, children are shown laser surgery - laser coagulation of the retina, which will prevent the disease from progressing to the next stages.
Retinopathy is a disorder of the retina of the eye in premature babies born prematurely with low birth weight. The disease develops in the early stages of retinal maturation and is diagnosed with the help of special equipment. If it is not detected in time, then retinal detachment occurs, and the child becomes blind.
