In the village of Syava of the Shakhunya urban district, wolves have been killing the master's dogs for two weeks. Residents find torn remains of pets and traces of blood on a regular basis. Predators attack dogs near the school, near the hospital, with a kindergarten, near small businesses. People are in a panic. Photos of torn apart pets and warning notices about the danger were sent to us by Ekaterina Lozhkina from Nizhny Novgorod. Residents are asked not to let their children out into the street without an adult escort. - My grandmother and grandfather live in the center of Syava, and a wolf dragged away and bitten a dog from them, - Ekaterina shared with us. - People are already afraid to leave their homes, stock up on firecrackers and gas cans to scare off predators. About three and a half thousand people live in the village, of which about 300 are children. It is especially scary for them. Marina Stanovova, a resident of Syava, does not let her daughters, pupils of grades 3 and 6, go to school when she cannot see them. “The wolves are in darkness this winter,” the woman says. - Recently, in broad daylight, four dogs were dragged away by wolves, including right next to the road along which children go to school. This has never happened before. It is also scary for women who go to work in the early morning. Galina Plastinina works at the local wastewater treatment plant. “We have dogs, wolves dragged the dogs away from the territory of the enterprise,” she said. - I saw the remains and traces of blood myself. The last case was recently at about 6 a.m. The head of the Syavsky territorial department of the administration of the urban district of the city of Shakhunya, Vladimir Shcherbakov, confirms that he does not remember such an invasion of wolves during his entire stay in the village. - The first torn dogs began to be found in early January, - he states. - To shoot them, permission from the state hunting supervision was required, but there were New Year's holidays, no one worked. We tried to fight predators on our own - we set traps, established night street watches. But wolves are very intelligent animals, they can feel a person from miles away. We recently received permission to shoot from the state hunting supervision, and our hunters went on a round-up. Judging by the tracks, there are three or four wolves wandering around here, but maybe there are more of them. Everyone managed to leave. We will go hunting again.”According to the head of the local hunting farm Andrey Ivanov, the wolves attacking dogs are newcomers, perhaps even from neighboring regions. “They don’t know where to find a food base, so they found an easy prey,” he said. - Previously, wolves used to drag one or two dogs a year, but such as in January of this year, it never happened. It is not so easy to shoot them down. First, you need to arrange a salary, to arrange the place where they are - to fence off with a cable with red flags, under which they will not go. Hunting should be massive, it is better to go out to several dozen hunters. The first try will rarely solve the problem. We will remind, in one of the villages of the Komi Republic last year, a wolf lifted to death a 14-year-old girl, who went out of the house to the store during the day. Before that, predators there also regularly appeared in the settlement and did not meet with serious resistance.
