In the Children's City Hospital of St. Mary Magdalene, an eight-month-old girl was subjected to a complex operation. It is reported that the child was born with a girl's chromosome set, but looked like a boy. At the same time, the genitals, both external and internal, were either absent in the small patient, or were partially developed. In such cases, experts determine the gender using special tests. Doctors found out that a person born with a sex development disorder is a girl.
In December last year, the first stage of the operation was carried out, during which the genitals were restored. Now the second stage is ahead, the result of which should be the restoration of a number of other vital organs. The third stage will take place in the summer. Andrologists of the Mary Magdalene Hospital, together with foreign colleagues, will conduct the final stage of the complete restoration of the functions of the patient's reproductive and urinary system, - The Petersburg Diary reports a message from the hospital's press service.
The operation was successful. The doctors noted that this is one of the most difficult operations that St. Petersburg andrologists have ever performed.
According to preliminary data, after the completion of all surgical interventions, in the future the girl will be able to have sex life, but whether her reproductive system will work is still unknown.
