According to the World Health Organization in Russia, just over 42% of children under 3 months receive exclusive breastfeeding. By comparison, in Canada, about 51% of children are exclusively breastfed before 4 months, and in Turkey, about 41.6% of children are exclusively breastfed before 6 months. US data show that 33.1% of babies are breastfed there before 4 months.

Head of the Office for the Organization of Medical Care for Mothers and Children, Professor of the Department of Neonatology, FDPE, Russian National Research Medical University named after I.I. N.I. Pirogova Irina Soldatova said that on average in Russia, mothers feed their children up to 8 months, in comparison with other countries, this indicator is lower in our country.

"In other countries, breastfeeding is a higher priority, there are mainly up to 1-1.5 years. We have less. It depends on the fact that we do not have jobs. Many mothers immediately go to work, there is no opportunity to breastfeed. The priority of breastfeeding is not well covered both in the media and in obstetric institutions, "Soldatova explained.

Benefits are not discussed

The benefits of breast milk, according to the neonatologist, are not even discussed, since it contains all the trace elements necessary for a baby.

"This is, of course, psychological comfort, immunological protection, this is the most anti-allergenic natural free product for a child, which maximally provides everything that is necessary, including psychological, cognitive, and psychomotor development," Soldatova said.

Pediatrician Larisa Yegorova said that mother's breast milk can protect a child from infectious diseases.

“If a mother has had rubella, measles, chickenpox, all these antibodies pass through breast milk to the baby. They do not last forever, over time they are destroyed, and the child may get sick, but at first they protect. Of course, this is protection against all intestinal infections. Therefore, there was an opinion in Russia that one should not quit feeding a child in the summer, because in the summer, as a rule, there is more intestinal infection, "said Yegorova.

Breast milk, according to the pediatrician, is immediately absorbed into the bloodstream through the intestines, since it contains the enzymes necessary for digestion, the child's body does not need to waste its energy in order to process milk. Once in the child's intestines, it is mechanically absorbed through the intestinal wall into the blood.

In addition, breastfeeding has a positive effect on the intelligence of the child, as it contains substances that are aimed at developing thinking abilities.

To breastfeed a child, according to experts, a mother needs to be up to 2-3 years old. “After three it is not necessary, because there is already differentiation, he realizes his gender, whether he is a boy or a girl, and here his mother, breast, his Oedipus complex will form. Maximum up to three,” explained Yegorova.

Prevention of oncology

The benefits of breastfeeding are not only for the baby, but also for the mother. This process gives the mother a healthier body, a psychological connection with the child, understanding him and emotional comfort, Soldatova explained.

"When a mother breastfeeds her baby, this is the prevention and maintenance of her reproductive functions. This is also the prevention of gynecological, endocrine diseases, mastopathy. Now almost every ninth woman has a disease of mastopathy. This increases the risk of developing breast cancer, which is in first place in our country. among diseases and death in women ", - said Soldatova.
